Naimans

The Naiman (also Naiman Turks or Naiman Mongols, (Mongolian Найман / Naiman " eight " ) ) was the name of a medieval Mongolian ethnic group, who lived in the steppes of Central Asia. They led diplomatic relations with the Kara Kitai, and have at times been subject to them. The Naiman are most often classified as a Turkic people, some sources classify them as well as Mongols. As the Keraits many of them were Nestorian Christians.

More than 400,000 of the population of Kazakhstan come from the Naiman from ( such as Middle Horde ), particularly in the east of the country. Part of the Naiman mingled with the Kyrgyz and Uzbeks.

In Afghanistan, a small group of Hazara also comes from the Naiman. They live as Sunnis in a village called Naiman.

Religion

At the time when the Naiman of Genghis Khan were captured, most of them were Nestorian Christians. They belonged to the second wave of Christians who immigrated with Kublai Khan in China.
