Naintré
Naintré is a commune with 5838 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Vienne in the Poitou -Charentes; it belongs to the district and to Chatellerault Chatellerault Canton -Sud.
Vieux Poitiers - Vetus Pictacvis
In the field of community Naintré and near the confluence of the Vienne and Clain lie the remains of the Gallo- Roman settlement Vieux- Poitiers ( Vetus Pictavis ) from the middle of the 1st century.
Vetus Pictavis was located near the confluence of the Vienne and Clain on the road from Tours to Poitiers. The town was destroyed at the end of the 2nd century by a fire. Visible are still mainly the Théâtre antique, which was designed with 116 meters in diameter for about 10,000 visitors.
In the year 742 met in Vetus Pictavis Carloman and Pepin, the sons of the late Charles Martel, and agreed here on a partitioning of the heritage that her brother Grifo no longer considered ( Reich division of Vieux- Poitiers).
