Nakatsu, ÅŒita

Nakatsu (Japanese中 津市, - shi) is a city located in Oita Prefecture in Japan.

Geography

Nakatsu is located southeast of Kitakyushu and northwest of the city of Oita in the immediate vicinity of Fukuoka Prefecture.

History

The history of Nakatsu starts with a castle founded by Kuroda Josui 1587 to created a rapidly growing settlement. Temporarily lived in this region a strong Christian population, so that " Nakatçu " was also listed on the early western Japan cards. Until modern times, the port in the maritime transport of the Seto Inland Sea played an important role.

On April 20, 1929, the present city was created by merging the castle settlement Nakatsu with surrounding villages.
