Nalanda

Nalanda (Hindi: नालन्दा, Nālandā ) is a 15 km north of Rajgir location ( in present-day Indian state of Bihar ) ruined city. Here, the largest Buddhist University was ( founded in the 5th century), to the more than 10,000 students and 1,000 professors studied and taught. It included 9-story buildings, 6 and 7 temple monasteries. The library should have included 9 million books. It was thus also the largest teaching center of the ancient world in general. The university was destroyed at the end of the 12th century in the wake of the Islamic conquest of India and the resulting decimation of Buddhism. A teaching center of the same name was built in 1351 in Tibet.

In addition to the archaeological well maintained grounds of monasteries and temples, attract especially the museum, the museum multimedia and the somewhat northerly newly built memorial for the Nalanda teaching in the 7th century, Xuanzang pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.
