Nalgonda district

Nalgonda, also Nallagonda ( Telugu: నల్లగొండ ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city of Nalgonda.

Geography

The district lies to the north of Andhra Pradesh. It is in the west of the district Rangareddy, in the northwest of the district Medak, in the northeast of the district Warangal, Khammam district bordered to the east by, in the southeast of the district Krishna, Guntur district and on the south by the south and west by the district Mahbubnagar.

The district has an area of ​​14,240 km 2 and is one of the geographically medium-sized districts in Andhra Pradesh (5.2 % of the area of Andhra Pradesh ). 837 km 2 of the area is forested ( 5.9 percent). The most important rivers in the district are the Krishna, Music and Dindi.

Climate

Population

At the last census 2011 3.483.648 inhabitants were counted. Of these, 1,758,061 were men (50.5 percent) and 1,725,587 women. Demographics

Significant places

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is the capital Nalgonda with about 110,000 residents. Other important cities with over 50,000 inhabitants are Suriapet, Miryalaguda, Bhongir and Kodad.

Economy

The majority of the population is employed in agriculture. Mainly (Sorghum ), pearl millet, rice, cotton, corn, legumes (groundnuts, pigeon peas, etc.), chili and sugarcane are grown. In addition, hand weaving is an important industry. There are throughout the district only a few small-scale industries (cement, rice and sugar mills ). In mineral resources one can find different types of rocks ( limestone, granite, etc. ), which are used industrially. In the cities, people live from trade in goods and services.

History

Nalgonda is part of the Telangana region and shares its history. Previously the area was under the name Nilagiri (also Neelagiri and Nilgiri ) known. By 1956, the area was a region in the state of Hyderabad. Since then, Nalgonda is an administrative unit within the then newly created state of Andhra Pradesh.

The district comprises 59 Mandals Nalgonda ( talukas ) and 1,155 inhabited villages.
