Nam Duck-woo

Nam Duck -woo ( born April 22, 1924 in Seoul, † May 18 2013 in Seoul) was a South Korean politician. From 1980 to 1982 he was the 14th Prime Minister of South Korea.

Life

Nam was born in a suburb of Seoul. After a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1950 at the Kookmin University, he worked at the Bank of Korea. In 1954 he resumed his academic career back on and made ​​1956 a Master in Economics from Seoul National University in 1961 and a Ph.D. in economics from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He was a professor of economics at Sogang University before he was taken by Park Chung -hee in politics.

In 1969 he was at the age of 45 years recently Finance Minister in the history of South Korea and remained so for five years. He is considered a central figure during the rapid economic development of South Korea. From 1974 to 1978 he was deputy prime minister, who was responsible for the economic policies of the industrial development of South Korea. In September 1980 he was the President Chun Doo -hwan Prime Minister, First -executive and from September 22 regular. In early 1982, he was replaced in that position by Yoo Chang -soon. In 1983 he became head of the Korea International Trade Association ( KITA ), which he remained until 1991.

After that he worked among others as a political advisor and consulted before the presidential elections in 2007, the daughter of Park Chung -hee, Park Geun - hye, who is since 2013 President of South Korea. In 2007, she was defeated, however, still in the internal party preselection against Lee Myung- bak.

On 18 May 2013, died at the age of 89 years to testicular cancer.
