Namatanai is a city on the island of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea, New Ireland Province. Namatanai has about 1,300 inhabitants ( 2005), the second largest settlement on the island and the administrative center of the southern part of New Ireland. From Namatanai you can reach the gold mines on the island Niolam. The city is Kavieng, 264 km north-west capital city in the province, joined by the Boluminski Highway.

From 1904 to 1914 worked as a government station Namatanai administrative seat for the District of New Ireland -South of the colony of German New Guinea. In the upper part of the old German Station building now houses the Hotel from Namatanai.
