Nambuangongo is a district in Angola.

History

Nambuangongo was known in particular in connection with the Portuguese colonial war. The independence movement UPA, shortly later the FNLA had emerged from the 1961 up arms and here based their headquarters. Portuguese conquered units in August 1961, the area and the headquarters.

The Portuguese poet and later socialist politician and presidential candidate Manuel Alegre as a soldier took part in this struggle. He processed the bloody clashes in a poem which gained wide notoriety, and was set to music by Paulo de Carvalho. 2010 Alegre returned to the site and laid flowers at the grave there bestatteter soldiers down.

Management

Nambuangongo is a circle ( Municipio ) in the province of Bengo. Chief town of the district is Muxiluando.

The circle is 5604 km ² and around 120,000 inhabitants. The neighboring districts are starting clockwise and North: Ambuila, Quitexe, Dembos, Ambriz and Dande.

The circle Nambuangongo consists of seven municipalities ( Comunas ):
