Namche Bazar ( नाम्चे बजार, also Namche Bazaar) is the capital of Namche VDC in the Khumbu region in the Solukhumbu district of Nepal. It lies in a tank-shaped incision above the Bhote Kosi to 3440 m. From the bottom of the valley to reach Namche after the Dudh Kosi is crossed and an approximately two -hour climb is managed.

The location is on a main for the Khumbu region crossroads where the path along the Bhote Kosi on Thame to Nangpa La and the path that leads up further into the valley of the Dudh Kosi and eventually to Mount Everest (Mount Everest Trek) branch, . Almost everyone who wanders in the Khumbu region, visited Namche Bazar, which in a sense represents the gateway to the high Himalayas. In the village there are many shops and accommodations. There is almost everything to buy what is needed for trekking. However, the prices are higher than in Kathmandu and the farther you go up, the higher they are, as all goods can only be transported by porters and pack animals.

Namche Bazaar is the administrative center of the Khumbu region. There is a police checkpoint, a bank, a post office and a dental clinic. Also here are the administrative center of the Sagarmatha National Park and the Nepalese army barracks.

Immediately west of Namche Bazaar is the Hill Kongde Ri ( 6187 m) and to the east of the mountain Thamserku ( 6608 m).

On a hill above Namche Bazar is Syangboche, a small town with an airstrip ( in 3750 m height). However, this is rarely used, because the subsoil consists of loose gravel and is suitable only for a few types of aircraft or helicopter. The slope allows notably, medical emergencies, to reach Namche Bazar from the air.

On Saturday morning, a weekly market takes place. Even from Tibet arrived dealer who sold their goods to the local population and tourists, a few years ago, however, the relevant border crossing was blocked by the Chinese. The market begins with sunrise and ends around 11:00 clock.

In Namche Bazaar, there are several Internet cafes that provide access to the Internet and can be from where the phone all over the world.

Climate

The summer in Namche Bazaar is wet and cool. Winter is dry and cold. Air determining factor is the impact of high elevation and the summer monsoon.
