Nameprep

Nameprep is a method for normalization of domain name in the Domain Name System. It is case letters are converted to lowercase characters brought equivalent in a uniform shape and control characters removed.

Nameprep was part of the 2003 Internet Standards specified Internationalizing Domain Names in Applications ( IDNA ), which allows, together with the Punycode encoding process, the conversion of internationalized domain names in ASCII compatible strings. With the new version IDNA2008, which was developed from 2008 to 2010, Nameprep is no longer part of IDNA.
