Namibia, Land of the Brave

Namibia, Land of the Brave is the national anthem of Namibia.

Formation

The Constitution of Namibia on 21 March 1990 looked to in Article 2, a national anthem for Namibia, met here but unlike the national flag no definition, but delegated the decision of a national anthem to Parliament.

After Namibia's independence in 1990, a competition was held with numerous composers, to give the then young country its own anthem. As the winner Axali Doeseb emerged from the competition. Doeseb was head of the folklore group Kalaharia that a three- week tour undertook at the invitation of the German - Namibian Society in 1987 by Germany.

For first years of independence, the new anthem was played publicly for the first time under the composer of the music and found her agreement. However, there have been discussions about the text, because after some musicologists consider the linguistic accents do not always harmonize with the musical rhythm.

The Law on the National Anthem of the Republic of Namibia was adopted on 17 December 1991. At the same time transferred Doeseb the copyright on text and music to the Republic of Namibia.

Although not having the national anthem of Namibia to directly compare, played and plays the Südwesterlied among the Germans in the land of the role of an unofficial national anthem.
