Namibia Premier League

The MTC Namibia Premier League ( Namibian First League ) is the highest division in football in Namibia, was established in 1990. In 1992 it was recognized by the Namibia Football Association. It is in the Namibia Premier League is a semi-professional league.

The only won the league and cup double in 2010, the African Stars.

History

A common League of whites and blacks there because of apartheid only since 1977. Prior took place parallel leagues, the Masters of the White League is qualified for the South African Premier Soccer League. The league is only since 1990 under the auspices of the Namibia Premier League.

Name History

The Namibia Premier League has since its establishment in 1990 until the 2007/2008 season by the so-called The Football Consortium, consisting of the Namibian company, First National Bank of Namibia (FNB ), Mobile Telecommunications (MTC ) and Namibia Breweries Limited ( NBL ) sponsored. Under their sponsorship, the Namibia Premier League had different names, including also Tafel Lager Premier League, named after the popular Namibian beer.

Since the 2008/2009 season is Mobile Telecommunications (MTC ) sole sponsor and has thus acquired the naming rights. Since then, the league is officially called " MTC Namibia Premier League " and its short form " MTC Premiership ".

League mode

It occurred since 2009, twelve teams in a round-trip round against each other. Previously played 16 teams in the Premier League. An increase to 14 teams was rejected in June 2011.

It is usual in the FIFA three- point rule.

The team that took first place at the end of the season, is a Namibian football champions. The last two will be relegated to the First Division.

NPL clubs

Many different clubs have played in the Namibia Premier League since 1990. In the 2013/2014 season, the following teams played in the Namibia Premier League.

In the Namibia Premier League also played, among others, Benfica Tsumeb ( from Tsumeb ), Chief Santos (Tsumeb ), Liverpool Okahandja ( Okahandja ), Oshakati City ( Oshakati ), Blue Boys (Swakopmund ) and Golden Bees ( Outjo ).
