Dollars or Mark?

In planning the introduction of a new currency after independence (1990 ) the newly established Bank of Namibia initially shaped sample sentences, which were then submitted to the Ministry of Finance Windhoek. There was apparently not yet decided on the name for the new currency, the samples were carried out both in dollars and marks. The decision was then made in favor of the dollar.

The sample sets with a circulation of 1000 copies included four different coins: 1 Mark, 1 Dollar (both in cupro-nickel), 10 Mark and $ 10 (both in silver). On the front of the par- Mark coins sitting lion is shown, the dollar series shows a man of the tribe of the San with bow and arrow, to each of the declared value and the words " SAMPLE" / " ESSAI " come. The back of the 1- Mark- and one - dollar coins still shows the old coat of arms of Namibia between two ears, the words " NAMIBIA " and the year "1990 ". On the otherwise identically designed reverse of the 10 marrow and 10 - dollar coins can be found in place of the ears the name " INDEPENDENCE " (English " Independence ") and " INDEPENDENCE ".

Minted the coins are 1993, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002.
