Nancy Argenta

Nancy Argenta (actually Nancy Herbison, born January 17, 1957 in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada ) is a Canadian soprano.

Nancy Argenta was born in Canada and grew up in the small town of Argenta, whose name she later adopted as a stage name. She studied with Jacob Hann in Vancouver and Martin Chambers at the University of Western Ontario and graduated in 1980. During the same year she won the first prize at the SC Eckhardt - Gramatté Competition. After a further training with Jacqueline Richard in Dusseldorf from 1980 to 1981, she moved to London, where she took another daily lessons with Peter Pears, Gérard Souzay and Vera Rosza.

In 1983 she made ​​her debut as La Chasseuresse in Rameau's opera Hyppolyte at Aricie at the festival in Aix -en- Provence. Since then, she is a busy soprano with commitment, inter alia, in Berlin, Göttingen, New York, Vienna and London, and the largest opera houses in the U.S. and Canada. Her repertoire includes works by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Schoenberg and Purcell, ranging from works from the 17th century to modern times.
