Nancy Kwan

Nancy Kwan (Chinese关 家 茜, Pinyin Guan Jiaqian, Cantonese Gwaan1 GAA1 Sin3, born May 19, 1939 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese-American actress.

Life

Nancy Kwan was born as the daughter of a Chinese father and a Scottish mother in Hong Kong. As a 18- year-old student of the Royal Ballet School, she was discovered by producer Ray Stark, who was looking for a leading lady for the film The World of Suzie Wong ( 1960). Kwan is played a prostitute in Hong Kong, which is the mistress of a white painter ( William Holden ). After this film Kwan went to Hollywood, where she rose to become the most prominent East Asian actress in no time, and thus became the successor to the late 1961 Anna May Wong.

In the 1960s, she worked mainly in the U.S., some in Europe. In 1972, she returned with her seriously ill father back to Hong Kong. After divorcing her second husband she wanted to spend with her little son really only a year, then remained for several years and led his own company, produced the commercials for the Southeast Asian market.
