History

To cope with the enormous population and industrial growth of the city of Shanghai, organized the Shanghai Urban Planning Office in 2002 an international competition to design a new industrial, residential and port city. The city foundation is associated with the international container Yangshan deep-water port, which lies off the coast of Shanghai, linked by the 32.5 km long pier Donghai Daqiao. The planned city Lingang New City should explicitly be no further dependent on Shanghai satellite but exert on its concentration on the maritime industries and maritime trade and related services, an independent function.

Similarly, the planned city should set standards and internationally, in terms of the structural quality, the environmental aspects and the urban identity and functionality for everyday use. The first prize was won by the Hamburg architects Gerkan, Marg and Partners, which manages the establishment since 2003 under the builder Shanghai Urban Planning Administration Bureau. When planning metaphor of the falling drops of water and its spreading on the surface of concentric circles was chosen.

Lingang New City is already being referred to (2011) after a few years and some partially built neighborhoods as " ideal city ". At least in comparison with the typical sequential closely packed tree aces in Chinese cities is the pleasantly landscaped and loosened neighborhood education " on a human scale " a huge step forward. There are also, at least in the inner area of the concentric circles, the relatively short distances to all major public facilities, the supply requirements and the central educational and things to do. One can assume that the inhabitants of this town plan, thanks also to the projected dense public transport, less ambition to develop, to achieve the highest vehicle density.

The urban planning / urban breakdown

The concept of planned city Lingang looks at the center of the area a circular lake called Lake Dishui with a diameter of 3 km before. This results in approximately 9 km lakeshore line, which are created as a promenade and beach. In the vernacular, it has already been christened the spacious waterfront " Lingang covenant." On islands in the lake find cultural facilities, public buildings and recreational areas place. Go from the lake as the center of the future city of streets in a radial form. Directly at the waterfront find expensive luxury apartments Place. Are ranked in concentric rings around the lake a densely built-up economic and administrative district and behind a 500 m wide and 10 km long park and additional public buildings. The development of the town through a system of circular and radially extending from the center of roads. These divide the city into sectors and thus lead to a clear order.

The traffic-free business district is the urban center Lingangs. Here you will find shops, shopping malls, offices, mixed-use and dense residential areas. The district is crossed by pedestrian zones. At the park close - also concentrically applied - 14 block-like living quarters for each 13,000 residents in. These are all interspersed by small rivers and lakes. District courts and lying between the block quarters medium-sized parks offer space for urban living, leisure activities and relaxation. Own shops, health, social and educational facilities make the quarters to infrastructure largely independent small communities. The living quarters are indeed all built in the same grid and with the same material, but they each get a own character of public spaces, facilities and parks in which they lean against international port cities that are connected twinned with Lingang.

On the western edge of the concentric system are vast areas for industrial, commercial, port-related transport and storage infrastructure, and research and educational institutions in the making. These areas are close to the bridge ramp partially outside the beplanten surfaces, but subject to the same urban conditions, particularly in relation to environmental sustainability. A strange building, Barcode Halls, has bar codes on the facade.

The first major construction project, which was founded in 1912 Shanghai was in 2008 relocated Ocean University of Shanghai on their 260 acre campus in Lingang New City. This special university with approximately 16,000 students today is the result of a college of fisheries, research and teaches, among other things in fields of oceanography, fisheries and fishing techniques, aquaculture, food processing, etc. They form the nucleus of the total expected (ie also state planned ) marine -related business and will thus contribute to the independence of the planned city.

Population Development

In the first contest Lingang was meant for only 300,000 inhabitants. Rescheduling for a later completion in 2020 now provide for a residential capacity of approximately 800,000 people. The City Planning Department shall ensure that forms a good social mix in Lingang, ie there are enough affordable homes to be built. Are inhabitants per 30 m² of living space is available, a large number measurement Chinese standards. Through the development of radial network, the city will also be controlled as needed to grow outwardly beyond the planned levels. In order to ensure that the residential capacity is also exploited lure the competent authorities with tax benefits and very low rents. On request it is also possible, as a foreign investor to acquire real estate property, without having to prove a Chinese partner.

Policy

There currently is under the future urban area Lingangs nor the Shanghai district of Pudong.

Twinning

14 international port cities connecting a partnership with Lingang, including Hamburg.

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

Chinese delegations advertise especially in the twin cities for firms to settle future in the region of Lingang, such as the west in the large business park and the new Yangshan deep-water port. Here, a main focus is on companies that are already active in the PRC. It focuses primarily on companies in the pharmaceutical, chemical, automotive, logistics, energy and beauty.

Traffic

The public transportation system with road or rail vehicles at street level works as a ring railway. Highway connections to Shanghai ( City and Pudong ) are available, but will be expanded for the expected higher loads. Next to the Yangshan deep water port near a free port for the duty- free material handling is planned. Yangshan, located off the coast, is over the 32.5 km long Donghai Daqiao, the first Chinese deep-sea bridge, accessible and serves, among other things, the rapid transport of goods for products from the Ling Anger companies. Opened in 1999, Shanghai Pudong Airport is just 30 kilometers away to the north.

The 46,400 -square-foot rectangular building, which is to start an exhibition on the history of Chinese seafaring is spanned by two to 58 meter high shell roofs in sail shape. The high hall is suitable for once take full rigged junks and other large objects
