Nanosystems Initiative Munich

The Nanosystems Initiative Munich ( NIM) is a research cluster in the field of nanoscience, which in 2006 was successful in the nationwide competition of the Excellence Initiative of the German Research Foundation (DFG). NIM is supported from the funds of this initiative since November 2006.

In the Cluster of Excellence scientist in the physics, biophysics, physical chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, biology, electrical engineering and medicine in the Munich area work together. The overall objective of the NIM research is the development, manufacture and control of different artificial and multifunctional nanosystems. The research aims to develop applications in information technology and medically relevant technologies and a combination of both areas.

In addition to the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich as a speaking university in the Nanosystems Initiative Munich, the Technical University of Munich (TUM ), the University of Augsburg, the Walther- Meissner - Institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences ( BAdW ), the Max - Planck - Institute of Biochemistry and the Center for Quantum Optics and new Technologies ( ZNT ) of the Deutsches Museum involved.
