Nantua
Nantua is a commune with 3651 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Ain , in the Rhône -Alpes. It is sub-prefecture of the arrondissements Nantua and capital of the canton Nantua.
Geography
Nantua is on 480 m above sea level. Level, about 30 kilometers east of Bourg -en- Bresse and 45 kilometers west of Geneva ( straight line ). The small town is located in the Haut- Bugey, in the Jura, in the deep cluse de Nantua, a transverse valley by the Jura chain ( Klus ), the brook Doye (tributary of Lac de Nantua ).
The area of 12.79 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the oriented here in the southwest-northeast cluse de Nantua. It forms a transverse valley, stretching from Nantua to the catchment area of the Valserine by the chains of the high Jura. The valley floor is at Nantua approximately 800 m wide and rises towards the north- east to Lac de Sylans to. History
Emperor Charles the Bald was buried in October 877 in Nantua, but later reburied in the Abbey of Saint- Denis.
