Naomi Shemer

Naomi Shemer (Hebrew נעמי שמר; born July 13, 1930 in Kvutsat Kinneret, Israel today, † 26 June 2004 in Tel Aviv) was a prominent singer of Israel and composers. She wrote songs and poems and music poems by other authors.

She gained fame through the song Yerushalayim shel Sahav ( ירושלים של זהב - Jerusalem of Gold ), which she wrote in 1967, a few days before the start of the Six Day War, when Israel occupied East Jerusalem and the Western Wall was open to Jews again.
