Naqoura

Naqura (Arabic الناقورة to - Nāqūra ) is a village in southern Lebanon with about 4500 inhabitants. It is located on the Mediterranean, on the border with Israel.

By area, however, it is even larger than the nearby city of Tyre.

UNIFIL has been here since March 23, 1978 their headquarters.

In March 1978, was occupied by the Israeli army also Naqura seven days. Israel was invaded in Operation Litani in southern Lebanon. It was the aim according to Israeli sources to fight the PLO. Estimates of losses on the Lebanese side range 300-2000 fallen.

1982 urged Israel to Lebanon and occupied the entire south of the country up to and including parts of the capital Beirut. Between 1985 and 2000, the south of Lebanon by Israel and allied with Israel South Lebanon Army remained occupied.
