Action

Kusum and her father are thrown out of their homes because they can no longer pay their debts. Ramprasad, who is in love with Kusum, comes to their rescue and bring them in the house of Bhavani Shankar, his employer, under. Bhavani is a widower and very superstitious. From his workers and his family, he is feared, even though he is afraid of his mother.

Ramprasad helped Bhavani to the ownership of the house of his ancestors. He is instructed to bring the house into a habitable state for Kusum and her father.
