Nas (Ikaria)

Nas (Greek Νάς (n. sg. ) ), Officially Kato Ikaria ( Κάτω Ράχες ( m. pl. ) ) Is a coastal town in the north of the Greek island Ikaría just a few kilometers southwest of Armenistís in the municipality Ikaria. At the end of a paved road of the village lies a few meters above a bay with a sandy beach. In the area of the beach empties the coming from the area of Christos Raches Bach Chalaris whose running is bordered by lush, subtropical vegetation, in the Aegean Sea. Due to the Meltemi and the resulting flow, this beach is one of the most dangerous in the country.

A few meters from the pebble beach is a sanctuary of Artemis. This sanctuary was built in the 6th century BC and then had great economic importance to the island. After the area was shunned. The temple was destroyed about 150 years ago by the inhabitants of the present-day administrative seat of the municipality Christos Ikaria and the stones used to build their church. First official excavations took place in 1938 by Leon Politis.
