Nasakom was a political concept, on which the Indonesian President Sukarno (reigned 1945-1967 ) ideologically based his presidency. Nasakom is an acronym consisting of the Indonesian words NASionalisme ( nationalism ), agama (religion) and KOMunisme ( communism).

The mid-1950s criticized Sukarno open parliamentary democracy was based on the constant conflicts. This run against the Indonesian idea of harmony that constitutes a natural state of human society. He aspired to a system based on the traditional village system of deliberation and consensus ( musyawara mufakat ) based moderated by the village elders. Around the three factions of the Indonesian policy - military, Islamic groups and the Communist Party - to reconcile, he propagated the concept of Nasakom. With the support of the military, he announced in February 1957, the Demokrasi Terpimpin ( " democracy" ). Members of the Cabinet should therefore come from all three of these groups, including members of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI).
