Nasal hair

Nose hair (Latin vibrissae ) are rigid hairs in the nasal entrance and serve as an air filter. They can be several millimeters long and are directed towards the nose hole. In the air we breathe are dirt particles such as dust or sand. This debris can damage the lungs and are therefore filtered out. Therefore, it is advisable to breathe in particularly polluted ambient air through the nose, as it can lead to overload of the lung otherwise.

Further filtering mechanisms of the nose are the nasal mucosa, which secretes secretion to better bind foreign bodies can, and 5-10 microns long cilia.

Distance

If the nose hairs appear too long, they can be cut off. Plucking nose hair is painful and can lead to inflammation of the hair follicles up to the formation of boils. As an alternative to plucking are special nose hair trimmer, be avoided by the use of such injuries. If the blade is dull, however, there is also the danger to pull out the hair and thereby accepting the same risks as in plucking. When shortening the nose hair with scissors in turn is a risk of injuring the delicate lining.
