Nash Statesman

The Nash Statesman (1950-1956) was the cheaper version of the two main model lines of Nash Motors and was priced below the Nash Ambassador. Basically it was just a renamed Nash Airflyte 600.

Although the interior of the Statesman was similar to that of the Ambassador, upholstery and furnishing materials were simpler in design and cheaper.

The mechanical difference from Ambassador consisted of a much shorter wheelbase, which was due to a shorter front end. Therefore, the front fenders and hoods of both vehicles were not identical. From the A- pillar to the rear, however, the two models were.

The engine of the Statesman based on the robust and reliable, decades-old Nash "Light Six " engine with "L -Head " (standing valves ), which was constructed in the 1920s and in the Nash LaFayette and Nash 600 to the 1940s survived. The remarkable thing about this design was the lack of intake manifold and exhaust manifold. As the Statesman was so easy, testers and customers reported a remarkably low fuel consumption.

The Nash Statesman models were offered in three model lines: The upper was the Statesman Custom, the entry-level version of the Statesman Super. The third series was a model for vehicle fleets, which was mostly ordered by companies or authorities.

The last Statesman models were built in August 1956; Nash all models from 1957 were called Ambassador.
