Nastran

The program package NASTRAN (short for NASA Structural Analysis System) was developed in the 1960s by the U.S. space agency NASA as a general purpose finite element program. It is written in FORTRAN and is characterized by an open architecture with the ability to integrate their own routines from. It was also sold commercially since the late 1960s.

Nastran is a pure computer program ( Solver ) without the possibility of graphical interaction and therefore usually comes after a preprocessor, which is the user-friendly interface for use. The input files are plain text files and therefore interchangeable between different systems. Due to its long history and the associated maturation Nastran is a de - facto standard for finite element calculations in aviation and space technology. Nastran is available for all major platforms in the CAE area.

Versions

The most famous Nastran version of MSC.Nastran MSC software today. More versions are NX Nastran from Siemens PLM Software (formerly UGS Corp. ), AI * NASTRAN Schaeffer Automated Simulation NEi Nastran and NEi of Software (formerly Noran Engineering, Inc ). Background of this branch in largely functionally identical versions was a lengthy antitrust negotiations with the result of the disclosure of the source code in 2002.
