Natalia Luis-Bassa

Natalia Luis - Bassa ( born July 13, 1966 Caracas, Venezuela) is musical director of the Haffner Orchestra in Lancaster and the Hallam Sinfonia in Sheffield.

Life

Luis - Bassa started her music education at the age of 15 years when she studied oboe at the Orquesta Juvenil de Venezuela. She also studied music at the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales, where she was appointed music director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Falcón. She completed her studies at the Royal School of Music in London. Subsequently, she was there for two years "Junior Fellow" as an opera conductor.

In 2002 she participated in the first Maazel - Vilar Conductor's Competition in New York and won the second prize. After that, she has gained experience in both the UK and beyond with various orchestras including the Orquesta Sinfónica Venezuela, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Paragon Ensemble, the Bombay Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Oman.

Natalia has a master's degree from the University of Huddersfield, where she is also a lecturer for the subject conducting.
