Natasha Zvereva

Natallja Swerawa (White Russian Наталля Маратаўна Зверава, often under the Russian name Наталья Маратовна Зверева or Наташа Маратовна Зверева / Natasha Zvereva Maratowna; born April 16, 1971 in Minsk) is a former Belarusian tennis player.

Life and career

In her career she won four singles and 80 doubles titles, including 18 at Grand Slam tournaments. This makes it one of the most successful doubles players ever. There are also two mixed titles they won both the Australian Open.

She won five times at Wimbledon, four times at the U.S. Open, the French Open six times, and three times at the Australian Open. Their successes come her with various partners ( Gigi Fernández, Martina Hingis, Pam Shriver and Larisa Neiland - Savchenko ).

In single it reached in 1988 at the age of 17 years, the final of the French Open and lost there against Steffi Graf with 0:6 and 0:6. It was the fastest ever defeat in a Grand Slam final (see Tennis Records).

Swerawa took repeatedly participate in the Olympics. In 1988 she launched in Seoul for the Soviet Union, reaching the quarter-finals in an individual, even in a double she managed this along with Savchenko. Starting in 1992 for the United team reached the second round in singles competition, she won the double with Leila Mes'chi the bronze medal. In 1996 she went to Belarus and different from each in the round of 16. Their last single on the tour they played in 2002 at Wimbledon, where she was eliminated in round two. The last double she denied in October of the same year.

On March 1, 2010 Swerawa was officially nominated for inclusion in the Tennis Hall of Fame.
