Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana

The Natchitoches Parish (French: Paroisse of Natchitoches ) is an administrative unit ( Parish ) in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In the census in 2010, the Parish had 39 566 inhabitants and a population density of 12.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Natchitoches.

Geography

The Parish is located in Northwest Louisiana, is located about 50 km to the west of Texas, located in the north about 80 miles from Arkansas and has an area of ​​3365 square kilometers, of which 114 square kilometers are water surface.

History

The Natchitoches Parish was formed in 1807 as one of the 19 original Parishes. It was named after the Natchitoches, one belonging to the Caddo Confederacy Tribal Culture.
