Nathan E. Kendall

Nathan Edward Kendall ( born March 17, 1868 Greenville, Clay County, Iowa, † November 5, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa ) was an American politician ( Republican) and 1921-1925 of 23 Governor of the State of Iowa. He was also from 1909 to 1913 deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Nathan Kendall attended the local schools of his home. After a subsequent law degree, he was admitted in 1887 as a lawyer. Then he began to practice in Albia. Between 1890 and 1892 he was a lawyer of this city, from 1893 to 1897 he was District Attorney in Monroe County. After that, he was a deputy in the 1899-1909 House of Representatives from Iowa. In 1909, he was President of this House. In 1909 to 1913 he represented his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. After his time in Congress, he worked as a lawyer again. In 1920 he was elected governor of his state.

Governor of Iowa

Nathan Kendall took up his new post on 13 January 1921. After a re-election in 1922, he could remain in office until 15 January 1925. During this time the government of Iowa has been reorganized. Among other things, some authorities were merged. The government also took care of taking care of the orphans and the disabled and abused children. The road network of the country has also expanded as the state parks.

Meanwhile, Kendall suffered from heart problems. In August 1923 he went to an extended sick leave to Hawaii. During this time he was represented by Lieutenant Governor John Hammill. At that time, even expected the resignation Kendall because of his health problems, but he brought his tenure then a regular end.

After the end of his tenure, Kendall withdrew from the mentioned health reasons from politics. He spent his life in Des Moines. Governor Kendall was married twice.
