Nathan East

Nathan East ( born December 8, 1955 in Philadelphia ) is the bassist for the jazz band Fourplay and has collaborated with various sizes of rock, blues, pop and jazz scene as a studio and live musicians, including Barry White, Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston, Al Jarreau, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Kenny Loggins, Phil Collins, George Harrison, Babyface, Herbie Hancock, Toto and Michael Jackson.

Growing up is Nathan East as one of seven children in a musical family. His two younger brothers, James and Marcel are also professional musicians.

Nathan began playing cello as a first instrument. At 14, he moved to electric bass. This he plays mostly in the 5 - or 6 -string version. Every now and then he is also heard as (background ) singer.

Throughout his career, East several times took on various artists on the role of the Successor of Leland Sklar as a live bassist. He played the late 90s when Phil Collins Live and Loose in the Tour after Sklar was a permanent member of the live band for years. In Collins Farewell Tour ( The First Farewell Tour ) finally played again Sklar bass. After Sklar 2007 at the Toto bassist Mike Porcaro suffering from ALS represented, East took over again the role of Sklar with Toto short tours of the years 2010 to 2013.
