Nathan Post

Nathan Woodworth Post ( born August 3, 1881 in Fonda, Pocahontas County, Iowa, † May 30, 1938 ) was an American naval officer. In 1913 and again in 1914 he was appointed acting each for a short time Military Governor of American Samoa.

Career

In 1904, Nathan graduated from the Post United States Military Academy in Annapolis (Maryland). He then began a long career as an officer in the United States Navy. At the end of his career he had reached the rank of captain. He initially served on the battleship USS Louisiana and then was staff officer in the 12th Naval District. In 1910, he led the Anwerbungsstelle the Navy in Omaha (Nebraska ).

Between 14 March and 14 July 1913 and 2 October to 6 December 1914 he was appointed acting governor of American Samoa. During the First World War, he also served in the Navy. In 1931 he was given command of the cruiser USS Detroit. He died on 30 May 1938.
