Nathaniel B. Eldredge

Nathaniel Buel Eldredge ( born March 28, 1813 in Auburn, New York, † November 27, 1893 in Adrian, Michigan ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nathaniel Eldredge attended the common schools and then studied at the Fairfield Medical College medicine. He then worked in Commerce (Michigan) as a physician. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party. In 1845 he was Clerk to the Senate from Michigan. In 1848 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Michigan. From 1852 to 1856 he served as restructuring judge. After studying law and its made ​​in 1854 admitted to the bar he began to work in his new profession. He also held during this time some local offices. During the Civil War he rose 1861-1863 by the captain to lieutenant colonel in the army of the Union.

In 1874, Eldredge was sheriff in Lenawee County. In the congressional elections of 1882 he was in the second electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edwin Willits on 4 April 1883. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1887 two legislative sessions. Between 1885 and 1887 he was chairman of the pension committee.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives to Nathaniel Eldredge withdrew from politics. He died on November 27, 1893 in Adrian, where he was also buried.
