Nathaniel Freeman, Jr.

Nathaniel Freeman, Jr. ( born May 1, 1766 Sandwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts; † August 22, 1800 ) was an American politician. Between 1795 and 1799 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nathaniel Freeman attended the common schools and then studied until 1787 at Harvard University. After a subsequent law degree in 1791 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Sandwich and Cape Cod to work in this profession. Freeman was 16 years a member of the Militia of Massachusetts, and rose to up to Major. In 1793 he was justice of the peace in his home. Politically he was first a member of the Federalists. Later he moved to the Democratic- Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1794 Freeman was selected in the fifth electoral district of Massachusetts in the time which meets even in Philadelphia U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Dwight Foster on March 4, 1795. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1799 two legislative sessions. Nathaniel Freeman died on August 22, 1800 in his birthplace sandwich. He was the nephew of Congressman Jonathan Freeman (1745-1808) from New Hampshire.
