Nathaniel Ruggles

Nathaniel Ruggles (* November 11, 1761 in Roxbury, Massachusetts, † December 19, 1819 ) was an American politician. Between 1813 and 1819 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Nathaniel Ruggles was born in what is now Boston's Roxbury. He attended preparatory schools and then studied until 1781 at Harvard University. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in his home in this profession. In 1807 he became a judge ( Judge of the General Sessions ) and 1808, he was appointed Chief Justice of the State of Massachusetts. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party.

In the congressional elections of 1812, Ruggles was in the 13th electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ebenezer Seaver on March 4, 1813. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1819 three legislative periods. These were initially still affected by the events of the British - American War.

Nathaniel Ruggles died on December 19, 1819, less than a year after the end of his last term, in his native Roxbury.
