National Agency for Education (Sweden)

Skolverket (also: National Agency for Education ) is the Swedish name for the Central Office for Schools and Adult Education, which was established in 1991.

It was founded in connection with the change of responsibility for the Swedish school system: The state control was replaced by a goal- oriented system with significant local responsibilities. The municipalities are responsible for the school organization, staffing and resources has been transferred.

On 1 March 2003, the Central Office was divided by outsourcing the Agency for School Improvement ( swedish Myndigheten promote skolutveckling ). The new authority is to support the Skolverket in the development of the various school systems, such as pre-school, general school and adult education.
