National Anticorruption Directorate

The National Anti -Corruption Authority (Romanian DIRECTIA Naţională Anticorupţie, DNA) is a company incorporated in September 2002 Romanian independent body to fight corruption. By March 2006, she was named National Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (Romanian Parchetul Naţional Anticorupţie ). The Authority shall be managed since August 2005 by the Attorney General Daniel Morar Marius. The term of office of heads of authorities shall be three years and may be renewed once. The powers of the Authority have been changed over the years repeatedly. The establishment of the Anti -Corruption Authority was, together with the establishment of the National Integrity Agency to the Romanian reforms that have been made with a view to EU accession of Romania.

The Attorney General of the DNA is subordinated to the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Cassation and Justice (Romanian Înalta Curtea de Casaţie şi JUSTITIE ) of Romania. He is nominated by the Minister of Justice and appointed by the President of Romania.

Since 2004, the DNA cooperates with the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).

In 2009, about 74 prosecutors in the DNA were employed, which brought 2642 cases for prosecution. 1871 cases were closed, in 168 cases, 552 defendants were convicted.

Chronicle

On 7 October 2011, the anti -corruption agency opened a criminal investigation against Iuliana Pusoiu, Justice of the Supreme Court. For a second Supreme Court judge, Gabriela Barsan, is yet to be determined. There are other judges against investigations.

On 9 November 2011, the Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu arrested on suspicion of bribery.
