National Association of Rocketry
The National Association of Rocketry (NAR ) is an American professional association for model rockets in the U.S. with around 5200 members and 125 local clubs.
History
The NAR was founded by G. Harry Stine and Orville Carlisle 1957. Background were numerous serious, often fatal accidents involving amateur rockets in the United States in the late 1950s. The NAR thus originated the idea of the regulated by a security Code and therefore safe model rocket construction.
Regulations
Together with the Tripoli Rocketry Association was the NAR legal action against restrictions of fuel APCP before and won in 2009 a multi-year lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
