National Crime Information Center

The National Crime Information Center ( NCIC, dt about "National Crime Information Centre " ) is the central database of the United States for the collection of information in connection with the fight against crime. It was established in 1967 and has since maintained by the Criminal Justice Information Services Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The stored data are from different bundes-/staatsweiten and local offices, which are not necessarily related to the fight against crime, such as the Department of Motor Vehicles ( German as " DMV "). In addition, compounds with similar systems exist which are operated by the individual states.

History

The NCIC was founded on 27 January 1967, the FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. At the foundation of the database comprised a stock of 356 784 records, which is grown by the end of 2009 to over 15 million. The purpose of the system was to create a central point of contact to facilitate the flow of information between the various law enforcement agencies.

The original infrastructure costs were then estimated at over $ 180 million. Mid-1990s, the system of the obsolete technology on a current platform was migrated. In 1993, estimated a committee of government that invest another $ 2 billion to modernize the system, the FBI had to all users to allow access.

  • Unidentified persons ( both alive and deceased)

  • Under Monitoring standing, freed offenders

  • Stolen boats
  • Stolen vehicle or boat parts with serial number
  • Stolen number plates
  • Stolen or involved in crime vehicles
  • Stolen or Lost Goods
  • Stolen, misappropriated or fake securities
  • Stolen, lost or rediscovered firearms
