National Democratic Congress (Ghana)

The National Democratic Congress (NDC ) has since the 2008 elections, the ruling party in Ghana and was previously the main opposition party. It is regarded as socially democratic.

The symbol of the party is an umbrella in the colors black, red, white and green.

In the presidential election of 2008, John Atta Mills was able to prevail in a runoff election against his rival Nana Akufo - Addo which the NDC is now the ruling party.

History

The National Democratic Congress was founded by former Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings on the elections in 1992 and 1996. Besides the National Democratic Congress, the opposition party of John Agyekum Kufuor, the New Patriotic Party, one of the two leading parties. The vice president under Rawlings, John Atta Mills stands before the NDC and ran as presidential candidate in the elections in 2000 and 2004, where he unterlagt behind each incumbent and incumbent President of Ghana, most recently in a runoff election. In the last elections on 7 December 2004, the National Democratic Congress gained in the context of parliamentary elections 94 of the 230 seats in parliament. Political support in the presidential election of the NDC received by the two opposition parties Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere ( EGLE ) and Democratic People's Party (DPP ) in order to strengthen the opposition as a whole.
