National Electrical Manufacturers Association

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association or NEMA is a US-based organization that was founded on September 1, 1926, when the Associated Manufacturers of Electrical Supplies and the Electric Power Club merged. Seat of NEMA is Rosslyn, Virginia.

NEMA is the trade association for the U.S. electrical industry dar. under their control are several standards that are in reference to electrical engineering, such as the National Electrical Code. The NEMA has 445 members (as of October 2013).

A sub- section is the Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance ( MITA ), in which all manufacturers of imaging or image processing systems are summarized in the medical field. Under their control is also the widespread open DICOM standard.

The German equivalent of the NEMA is the Central Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry ( ZVEI).
