The National Film and Television School ( NFTS ) in Beaconsfield ( near London) is the most important film school Britain and is among the most respected film and media institutions worldwide.
It was founded in 1971 and since then teaches a highly practical program, including in the fields of directing, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, set design, film music, sound, animation, etc.
At the NFTS lecture numerous personalities from the film and television industry as Stephen Frears (Director), Brian Tufano ( camera) or Kim Longinotto (documentary) as well as many international guest lecturers, including Atom Egoyan, Jim Jarmusch, Michael Winterbottom, M Night Shyamalan, Ken Loach, Spike Lee, Thomas Vinterberg, etc.
The NFTS is funded and sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the British government. Other important partnerships with BBC, ITV, Channel Four and BSkyB, as well as film studios UIP and Warner Bros.
Director of the school is the British film producer Nik Powell. President is Lord Richard Attenborough.
