National Film Awards
The National Film Awards (often abbreviated to National Awards) are the most prestigious film awards in India. The awards, consisting of a medal and a cash prize will be awarded annually to a ceremony of the President of India. They are the national ceremony for the total Indian film, but there are also prizes for the best films awarded in each of the recognized national languages .
The National Film Awards were presented for the first time for films of the year in 1953 to promote Indian art and culture at the national level. The first award ceremony took place in 1954. Make since a counterpoint dar. to the popular Filmfare Awards of Hindi film
Awards are available in the following types: drama and documentary. Two separate juries - originally used by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the film division since 1973 by the Directorate of Film Festivals - elect the winners. The prizes will be donated by the Government of India and the Directorate of film festivals in India. Over 100 films from all over the country will qualify if they satisfy certain criteria each year for evaluation by a panel of judges.
History
The National Film Awards were introduced on the recommendation of the film Enquiry Committee headed by SK Patil in 1954 and distinguished films of last year. They first had the name State Film Awards, since 1966 they are awarded under its current name.
The first award three prizes were awarded: one "President 's Gold Medal" for the best feature film and best documentary and a "President 's Silver Medal" for the best children's film. Already in the second ceremony 1955 separate price for movies were introduced in the regional languages. Own prices for artists and technicians have been around since 1968. A prize for lifetime achievement deserving Indian filmmakers founded in 1969 and named after the film pioneer Dadasaheb Phalke. First time in 1980 a prize for the best book on film was awarded the meantime, the section of the Scriptures has been extended to the film on a prize for the best film critic.
