National Geographic Channel (Canada)

National Geographic Channel is a Canadian English language Category B television station headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The station is owned by Shaw Media and National Geographic Society. The station broadcasts mainly documentaries from the natural sciences and reports.

History

The transmitter received the transmission authorization by the competent supervisory authority of the Canadian Radio - Television and Telecommunications Commission ( CRTC ) in November 2000. Alliance Atlantis began its official broadcast operation on 7 September 2001. On 18 January 2008, through a joint venture between the company Canwest and Goldman Sachs Capital (CW Media ) was founded. CW Media took over the operator of the Senders Alliance Atlantis. On 27 October 2010 Shaw Media acquired through the acquisition of CW Media the transmitter.

National Geographic Channel HD

On 19 December 2006 launched the former operator of the transmitter, Alliance Atlantis, a parallel transmission program in HDTV.

Receptivity

The transmitter is fed by several cable operators in the cable network. In addition, the sender can be received via satellite by Bell TV and Shaw Direct. The television signal is also fed in the broadband telephone network from Bell Aliant, Bell Fibe TV, MTS, optic TV and Sasktel.
