National Historic Sites of Canada

As a National Historic Site (French lieu historique national) around a thousand buildings, places, archaeological sites or facilities are reported in Canada that are as monuments of historical importance.

Approximately one in five of these sites is managed by Parks Canada under the umbrella of the Ministry of Environment. Parks Canada has made ​​as the criteria for inclusion on the list for sites to testify about defining historical moments that they illustrate the human creativity and cultural traditions. They are to be understood with their individual history as part of the larger history of Canada and provide a sense of time, identity and place as the basis for the understanding of Canada as a whole.

The sites are recognized by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. Currently 935 Historic sites are recognized, of which Parcs Canada 167 serves (as of December 2009). To many sites owned by the state, the Federal Heritage Buildings Review Office ( FHBRO ) care. On Saint Croix Iceland on the border between the U.S. and Canada originated with the Saint Croix Iceland International Historic Site is the only International Historic Site. The National Historic Sites include two sites in France, which were as battle sites during the First World War for Canada of importance.
