National Ice Center

The National Ice Center ( NAVICECEN / NATICE ) is a research center for the study of navigation and analyzes for the armed forces of the United States and allied nations as well as for civil navigation. It is maintained by the U.S. Navy, and thus by the U.S. Department of Defense, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration maintained by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Coast Guard U.S. Department of Transportation. It was founded in 1995, since then it creates maps of the sea areas covered by sea ice, and observed icebergs drift into shipping lanes.

In the North Atlantic, the International Ice Patrol takes over the monitoring of icebergs.
