National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology

The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, AIST short (English for Japanese产业 技术 総 合 研究所, Sogo Sangyo gijutsu KENKYUSHO, dt about "general Research Institute of Industrial Technology ", in short产 総 研, Sansōken ), is a state- supported research organization in Japan. In its present form it was created at the beginning of fiscal year 2001 (April 1 ). The current President is Tamotsu Nomakuchi, previously one of the Chairmen of the Committee on Intellectual Property of the Japan Business Federation and Chairman of the Japan Intellectual Property Association. The organization has 2400 researchers and 700 administrative employees.

The Ministry of the Economy, Trade and Industry, Incorporated Administrative Agency assigned ( Dokuritsu Gyosei Hojin, self -regulatory body ) was spun on the restructuring of central government in January 2001 from the previous ministry. Headquartered in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture. The budget amounted in fiscal year 2008 to about 102 billion yen.
