National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics

The National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics Spanish Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica ( INAOE ) is a Mexican research institute in Tonantzintla, Puebla. It is one of 30 research institutes of the Centros de Investigación Públicos of the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología ( CONACyT ).

It was established by a presidential decree on November 11, 1971 and employs more than 100 researchers in astrophysics, optics, electronics and computer science. Important projects in which the Institute is involved, are the Large Millimeter Telescope and the Gran Telescopio Canarias.
