National Intelligence Service (Greece)

The Ethniki Ypiresia Pliroforion (EYP ) (Greek: Εθνική Υπηρεσία Πληροφοριών ( ΕΥΠ ) National Intelligence Service, in English: National Intelligence Service (NIS) ) is the civilian intelligence Greece.

The mission of the EYP is the preservation of national security. For this purpose, collects, analyzes, and he disseminated political, economic and military information from home and abroad. He is also active in the counterintelligence and communication security.

The EYP was founded in 1953 as a Central Intelligence Service ( Kentrikí Ypiresia Pliroforion, KYP - Central Intelligence Agency ) founded the American model and support in the establishment phase strongly by the CIA. 1986 then the service in the National Intelligence Service (NIS ) ( Ethniki Ypiresia Pliroforion, EYP - National Intelligence Service ) has been renamed.

There is also the Diakladiki Dievthynsi Stratiotikon Pliroforion ( DDPS ) (English Joint Directorate of Military Intelligence ) of the Greek armed forces, which is the Greek military intelligence.
