Traditionally, the NJC has the 11th and 12th grade ( JC1 and JC2 ), so that the students pass the High School at the end of 12th grade. Nevertheless, the NJC in January 2004 was the first school in Singapore, which introduced for gifted students a new 4 -year " Integrated Programme" ( IP). In this program, the NJC offered to the 9th to 12th grade. Other JCs like Victoria JC and Temasek JC took over later this education plan. In 2008, the NJC received approval from the Ministry of Education to undertake both a boarding school program as well as a 6 -year IP program - the first time for a JC in Singapore. Thus, the NJC will offer the 7th to 12th grades from 2009. Students must stay at least 1 or 2 semesters at the boarding school building.

In NJC there are about 5 classes per IP - year ( four scientific and humanities- oriented ) of class 10 and 23 science course classes and 2 Humanities Course classes for each regular "mainstream" JC- vintage.

Courses

For the 11th and 12th grade, the NJC offers two course trains at: the scientific train (Science Stream) and the humanities train ( Arts Stream). The scientific focus the student must (H2 Higher 2, abbreviated ) at least two main compartments occupy in the natural sciences or mathematics, and usually two main compartments (H2) in the humanities. The students with a humanities focus mostly occupy a main compartment (H2) and a minor ( Higher 1, abbreviated as H1) in the natural sciences. In addition, there are general compulsory subjects ( H1) as " Project Work" and native language in the 11th grade, although there are occasional exceptions for subjects such as mother tongue.

Application and matriculation

For the four-year IP, pupils have to apply in the 8th grade in May directly to the school. Normally, applicants must good academic performance and extracurricular activities such as joint ( in Singapore schools " CCA " means ) prove to be accepted. Candidates with excellent primary school - leaving certificate ( PSLE ) scores (ie at least 250 points of 300 possible ) will be positive.

International students, especially those without a Singaporean academic evidence, must apply directly to the school for the four years of IP or the two-year JC program. To date, the NJC international students from countries such as Germany, India, China, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam and various ASEAN countries adopted. These students can either visit the NJC only for a few semesters, or the "Singapore - Cambridge GCE 'A' Level" ( Abitur) after completing the 12th grade. The individual performance from the student, since the idea of a meritocracy - as in other Singaporean schools - plays a major role.
